The Long Dark Simple Tools Reviews
(playing on stalker difficulty, really new to the game)For example i see little branches pop up close to my house usually after a blizzard. Wolves show up after some time in the same locations where they were killed.
But i was watching some videos where people in the late game were simply out of all resources.I thought first that one can use torch to light up a fire and that way save the matches in the long run since they probably dont respawn but then i noticed that im actually wasting matches every time i light up a torch so its not very effective:0Ofcourse some people might say the survival game should end with death in the end. But i think it really doesnt have to. Thats where the respawn question pops up.
May 4, 2015 - I was reading an old post on the forum and it looked like there was a way, just wondering if its possible. Is it possible to view yourself in 3rd person (perhaps using the console)? Seems like the only way you can check yourself out currently is to due. Stalker call of pripyat third person. For S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat on the PC, a GameFAQs message board topic titled 'Third person view'.
For example say i will survive on a ML for a 300 days, then move to another location and live there another 300 days when i come back to ML the wild life population should respawn, that would make sense. Also im not sure why cant the character start fire without matches? After watching some of the 'bear grills' series i actually tried to start fire at my home with 2 sticks and it worked though it took me about 3-4 hours. Seeing how many treees surround you in the game, wood should never deplete.
'Simple tools will reduce the time need for repairing an item by 25% and increase the chance of success by 10%.' It's on the long dark Wikia, but I'm not sure if the info is still relevant. Hope it helps!:DYou also need the simple tools (at least) to repair the heavy hammer and storm lantern (as said by SpaceBallsJim), it says.As for quality tools:'Quality tools will reduce the time need for repairing an item by 50% and increase the chance of success by 20%.' Again, I don't know if this is true, never tested it. Seems worth giving a shot, though. The wiki is horrifically out of date, and even says in some places that a wolfskin coat still harvests for two cloth.:)It used to be that simple tools were necessary to repair the rifle, maybe even the knife and hatchet (I forget). They were non-negotiable for long term survival.

The quality tools were highly sought, only appearing in a few places in the game, offering a reduction in repair time and a bonus to repair value back then. A big deal when making sure every scrap metal was stretched to maximum usefulness.Nowadays, apart from a couple specific item repairs, they're a relic of the old times.
More valuable as fishing hooks than tool.
